To stably generate a wire having a high average length in particular and having an average aspect when a fine silver nanowire is synthesized by an alcohol solvent reduction process.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a silver nanowire having a process where silver is subjected to reduction precipitation into a wire shape in an alcohol solvent dissolved with a silver compound and an organic protective agent, wherein a polymer having a vinylpyrrolidone structural unit is used as the organic protective agent and in a state where methyl-t-butyl ether is dissolved at a concentration of 0.3 to 25.0 mmol/L into the alcohol solvent, the reduction precipitation is progressed in the liquid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
