To provide a diaphragm for alkaline water electrolysis that has a good gas isolation, maintains hydrophilicity in a long-term electrolysis, and prevents an adhesion of bubbles from inhibiting ionic permeability, and that in addition to them, even under the environment of variable power supply, suppresses a missing of hydrophilic inorganic particles, maintains the suppression, and can thereby maintain a low voltage loss and the gas isolation.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a diaphragm for alkaline water electrolysis, comprising a polymer porous film including polymeric resin and hydrophilic inorganic particles. The porosity of the polymer porous film is between 30% and 60%. An average pore diameter on both surfaces of the polymer porous film is between 0.5 μm and 2.0 μm. The ratio of a mode particle diameter of the hydrophilic inorganic particles to the average pore diameter of the polymer porous film (mode particle diameter/average pore diameter) is 2.0 or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
