To provide rapid and simple methods for screening substances that enhance nitrogen monoxide production by vascular endothelial cells.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for screening a substance that enhances production of nitrogen monoxide in vascular endothelial cells, the method comprising the steps of: adding in vitro a nitrogen monoxide indicator and an active oxygen indicator to a reaction solution containing cultured cells derived from a vascular endothelial cell; contacting the cultured cells to a test substance; and measuring the amounts of nitrogen monoxide and active oxygen using the nitrogen monoxide indicator and active oxygen indicator as an index, where when the measured amount of the nitrogen monoxide is higher than the standard value for nitrogen monoxide and the measured amount of the active oxygen is equal to or lower than the standard value for active oxygen, the test substance is evaluated as a substance that enhances nitrogen monoxide production by vascular endothelial cells.SELECTED DRAWING: None
