Various embodiments include an image sensor that provides a global electronic shutter having an integrated circuit, a first charge extraction layer, a photosensitive layer, and a second hole extraction layer. In the first mode ("on" mode), electrons are extracted through the first charge extraction layer. In the second mode ("off" mode), hole extraction is blocked by the first charge extraction layer. Other embodiments are disclosed.
