PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code area detection device capable of detecting a bar code, even when the bar code is in a complicated background.SOLUTION: The bar code area detection device includes an image thinning processing part, an image synthesis part, and an area coordinate evaluation part. The image thinning processing part performs image thinning processing to an original image. The image synthesis part synthesizes an image after thinning processing is performed by the image thinning processing part and the original image.
