PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information detecting device, a bar code detecting device, a postcard reading/sorting machine, an information detecting method, and a bar code detecting method, which reduce the cost of the devices and enables easy and speedy detection of bar codes.;SOLUTION: The sorting machine has a reading section 5 which reads an image on a postcard P transferred via a transfer passage 4, an operation and display panel which displays the read image, and an identifying section 6 which identifies the sorting destination of the postcard P on the basis of the result in reading. The image read by the reading section 5 is displayed on the operation and display panel, on which an operator inputs to specify a bar code area. The identifying section 6 detects the position of a customer bar code from the read image on the basis of the bar code area, and detects a position where other information is added on the basis of the detected customer bar code position and a coordinate function.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
