PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber sensor system having small energy loss, and a refractive index detection method.SOLUTION: A waveguide body which guides diffracted light generated by diffracting incident laser beam while totally reflecting the diffracted light and has metal nanoparticles inducing localized surface plasmon resonance disposed on the outer surface thereof is placed inside an analyte and detects a refractive index on the basis of a phase shift generated in the diffracted light with total reflection. The optical fiber sensor system is comprised of : a projector which emits laser beam; a first optical fiber which has one end connected to the projector and guides the laser beam; a long-sized waveguide body to which the other end of the first optical fiber is connected and which has metal nanoparticles inducing localized surface plasmon resonance disposed on the outer surface thereof; a second optical fiber which faces the first optical fiber and has one end connected to the waveguide body; a light receiver to which the other end of the second optical fiber is connected; and an analyzer which analyzes a signal output from the light receiver.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
