PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for improving shielding for ionizing radiation such as X-ray, in an apparatus for sterilizing a container by ionizing radiation.;SOLUTION: In a device 1 for sterilizing containers 10, comprising a transport device which transports the containers 10 along a specified transport path, at least one stress application device 4 which applies radiation, in particular, electromagnetic radiation, to the container 10 for sterilization and a shielding device 20 which shields generated X-rays for use in sterilization, the shielding device 20 has at least one outer wall 22 which extends along the transport pathway of the container 10 and defines the boundary of the transport pathway.
