PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knee joint assist device, in any state of a bent state and a stretched state, capable of retaining an inner support plate or an inner rotary shaft and a knee joint internal condyle, or an outer support plate or an outer rotary shaft and a knee joint external condyle, at prescribed positions.SOLUTION: A design method of a knee joint assist device includes: an actual measurement step of measuring a size of a leg part of a wearer; a first reference point determination step of determining a first reference point C; a second reference point determination step of determining a second reference point E; a virtual vertical line determination step of determining a virtual vertical line F; a virtual horizontal line determination step of determining a virtual horizontal line G; a design reference line determination step of determining a design reference line K; a support plate determination step of determining positions and inclinations of an inner support plate 1b and an outer support plate 1a; and an arm determination step of determining shapes of an inner upper arm 10b, an inner lower arm 20b, an outer upper arm 10a, and an outer lower arm 20a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
