A system and method for supporting a scalable bitmap based P_Key table in a high performance computing environment. One method may provide at least one subnet comprising one or more switches, multiple host channel adapters, and multiple end nodes. The method can associate multiple end nodes with at least one of the multiple partitions, each of the multiple partitions being associated with a P_Key value. The method may associate each of the one or more switches with a P_Key table based on a bitmap of P_Key tables based on multiple bitmaps. The method can associate each of the host channel adapters with a P_Key table based on a bitmap of P_Key tables based on multiple bitmaps.
