An implantable biocompatible dilator suitable for implantation in the urethra includes an elongated sinusoidal ring that includes at least two proximal prongs and at least two distal prongs. The dilator delivers through the urethra from a relaxed, radially expanded orientation. The dilator is configured to exert a radially outward force against the wall of the urethra when in place in the urethra. The dilator is particularly suitable for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy and is configured to be implanted in the prostate urethra between the bladder neck and the external urethral sphincter.
