The invention relates to a process for carotenoid and protein enrichment of a biomass of a microalgae grown under heterotrophic conditions, wherein said microalgae is of the genus chlorella, comprising culturing said microalgae in a minimal medium supplemented with a source of nitrogen in the organic form, preferably chosen from the group consisting of yeast extract, maceration liquor, and a combination thereof.
