Fermentation media and methods for polysaccharide production in a bacterial cell culture

The present invention relates to fermentation media and methods for producing polysaccharides in a bacterial cell culture. In one aspect, the invention relates to a complex culture medium comprising a vegetable hydrolyzate, a yeast extract, and a carbon source. In another aspect, the invention relates to a defined medium having a total amino acid concentration of greater than about 50 mm. A further aspect of the invention relates to the use of batch feed and infusion fermentation methods to cultivate polysaccharide producing bacteria.
