Various embodiments include a method for configuring and generating a non-adiabatic saturation pulse for use in nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) profiling. One of these methods sets the pulse by adjusting one or more of the pulse amplitude or phase cycle modulations. the modified pulse is transmitted to a fluid such that a substantially uniform nuclear spin inversion or nuclear spin saturation echo response is received from the fluid. a time delay between pulse transmission and echo response indicating that the spin equilibrium has been reached is substantially equal to a time t1. Waiting time is an indication of fluid characteristics.
