The present invention relates to variant antibodies and methods for generating said antibodies with a low level of binding to process impurities. in particular, the invention describes variant igg4 antibodies that have been modified in the heavy chain constant region at either amino acid or a combination of amino acids in the region between kabat 203 and 256 residues, with variant igg4 antibody having a reduced level. binding to host cell protein (hcp) as compared to an unmodified igg4 antibody.
