The present invention relates to a method for improving the efficiency of a dust separator, which comprises operating a centrifugal cylindrical dust separator connected to an electrically driven ventilator, preferably a fan (s), in which the air flow in the separator cylinder is forced in a helical motion. The essence of the method is to measure the axial velocity component of the respective air flow in the separating cylinder and, if necessary, to change the direction of the respective air flow velocity sequentially after the measurement location so that the centrifugal velocity and volume of the separating cylinder remain constant. The invention further relates to an improved dust separation system, preferably for carrying out the method according to the method, which has a cylindrical dust separator (7) connected to an electrically driven ventilator (1). The dust separation system is characterized in that an air-conducting tube (2) is connected coaxially to the cylindrical dust separator (7). In the air guide tube (2), variable-angle airflow reversing vanes (3) connected to a servo motor (6) are arranged. In the cylindrical dust separator (7), in the space in front of the air reversing vanes (3), next to the wall, there is a Prandtl tube (4) connected to a pressure gauge (5) or a direct air velocity gauge. The meter has a measuring control unit (8) connected to a computer (10), the input of which is connected to the pressure gauge (5) or the air speedometer. One output of the measuring control unit (8) is connected to the electrically driven fan (1) via a controller (9) and the other output is connected to the servo motor (6).
