The invention relates to a process for preparing a core-shell cyclodextrin-based adsorbent system to be used for treating water polluted with organic pollutants and/or heavy metals. According to the invention, the process consists of the synthesis of carboxymethyl-2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (CM-2-hp-beta-CD), ferrite nanoparticles synthesis using the co-precipitation method, followed by grafting CM-2-hp-beta-CD onto the surface of ferrite particles, to result in a core-shell system based on ferrite nanoparticles functionalized with 2-hp-beta-CD, having an adsorption capacity of 25 mg/g for copper ions and of 45 mg/g for ibuprofen.
