The invention relates to a device used for studying the stiffness of a universal lathe during the rotation of its main shaft. According to the invention, the device consists of a dynamometer (B) disposed between a piece (1) of known shape, used to determine the static stiffness of a universal lathe, and a ring (6) which is assembled by using a tight fit on an outer ring of a radial bearing (C) mounted and fastened by means of a nut (8) onto a control mandrel (7), mandrel (7) which is oriented and fixed in the universal chuck and in the rotating tip of the lathe, a variable load between certain limits being generated by rotating a nut (3) within the dynamometer (B) and transmitting the radial load towards the control mandrel (7) by means of a ball (4), towards a bush (5) attached by welding to the ring (6) mounted onto the outer ring of radial bearing (C) located on the control mandrel (7) and a dial comparator (D) which provides information about the elastic deformation of a tool holder support (A), said deformation being produced under the action of a component of the load force exerted along a horizontal axis situated in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the lathe main shaft.
