The invention relates to a process for preparing a nanocomposite based on graphene and metal nanoparticles to be used in order to modify the electrode used in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). According to the invention, the process consists of a 3-step synthesis, wherein, in the first step, the process of intercalating the oxygenated groups in the graphite layers takes place in the presence of sulfuric acid, potassium permanganate and hydrogen peroxide, in the second step, the ultrasound exfoliation of graphite oxide to graphene oxide takes place, followed by functionalization with polydimethyl-diallyl ammonium chloride, after which, in the third step, the in-situ co-reduction of graphene oxide and chloroaurous acid takes place, resulting in a graphene composite decorated with Au used as ORR electrocatalyst in PEMFC.
