A procedure (1000) implemented by computer to determine an estimate of radiation dose absorbed by an individual receiving an imaging scan, the procedure comprising: receiving (1010) a set of parameters describing the imaging scan and an image scanning apparatus that is used to perform the imaging scan; receive (1005) a deformed imaging phantom corresponding to the individual; characterized by evaluating (1015) a plurality of previously completed simulations that estimate radiation dose absorption; and after determining (1020), based on the evaluation, that two or more of the simulations coincide with the set of parameters and imaging phantom received within a specified tolerance measure, interpolate (1030) dose estimates of radiation in the two or more simulations to determine the estimate of radiation dose absorbed by the individual receiving the imaging scan.
