An isotopically labeled reagent comprising: a compound having a formula ** Formula ** where a, each time it appears, is independently a carbon atomic mass number between 11 and 14 inclusive, and where said compound is isotopically enriched with at minus one carbon where a is 11, 13 or 14, where b, each time it appears, is independently a hydrogen atomic mass number between 1 and 3, where L is a leaving group R1SO2-O-, where n is 0, wherein R1 is aryl, C1-C20 alkyl, C2-C20 alkenyl, and C2-C20 alkynyl, and said aryl, C1-C20 alkyl, C2-C20 alkenyl, and C2-C20 alkynyl can be optionally modified by replacing a hydrogen attached to a carbon atom with a substituent independently selected from alkyl, amino, cycloalkyl, halo, nitro, cyano, -OR2, acyl and -COOR3, wherein said aryl is a monovalent, monocyclic or bicyclic aromatic hydrocarbon radical of 6 to 10 atoms of ring, said alkyl designates C1-C6 alkyl, said amino designates NH2, NHR4 or NR4R5, where R4 and R5 are independently selected from C1-C6 alkyl, an aryl being defined as a monocyclic or bicyclic aromatic hydrocarbon radical of 6 to 10 ring atoms, alkoxy C1-C6 or C6 phenoxy, said cycloalkyl designates cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl, said halo designates fluoro, chloro, bromo or iodo, said R2 designates hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C5 or C6 cycloalkyl, a heterocycloalkyl selected from furanyl, tetrahydrofuranyl, epoxy , tetrahydropyranyl, dioxinyl, thiacyclopentyl, azeridyl pyrolidyl, piperadyl, morphyl and forms thereof substituted with C1-C6 alkyl, and a phenyl, which has been modified by replacing a hydrogen attached to a carbon atom with each substituent independently selected from alkyl , amino, cycloalkyl, halo, nitro, cyano, -OR2, acyl and -COOR3, and said R3 designates hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl.
