A gutter guard for retaining a gutter and for covering an opening of thegutter isprovided. The gutter has a front wall and a rear wall and the opening isdefined bya top edge of the front wall and the top edge of the rear wall. The gutterguardincludes a front portion for operatively engaging the front wall of thegutter, a rearportion having an upwardly and rearwardly extending hook member for retainingthe rear wall of the gutter and an upstanding member fastenable to anupstandingsupport structure, and a central portion extending between the front portionandthe rear portion and having a plurality of throughholes formed therein. Thegutterguard may be multi-layered, having a first sheet member and a second sheetmember that are spaced apart and having non-aligned throughholes. A gutterguard kit can include at least one gutter guard and a gutter that areoperativelyengageable with one another.
