Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide quasi-cyclic low-densityparity-check (QC-LDPC) codes having pair-wise orthogonality of adjacent rows of the corresponding base matrices, and anew decoder (e.g. layered decoder) that exploits thepairwise row orthogonality for flexible decoder scheduling without performanceloss, for example by decoding sequentially row byrow in the base matrix or by decoding the pairs of orthogonal rows in the basematrix at a time. An apparatus includes a receiverconfigured to receive a codeword in accordance with a radio technology acrossa wireless channel via one or more antenna elementssituated proximal the receiver. The apparatus includes at least one processorcoupled with a memory and comprising decoder circuitryconfigured to decode the codeword based on a QC-LDPC code to produce a set ofinformation bits. The LDPC code is stored in thememory and defined by a base matrix having columns in which all adjacent rowsare orthogonal in a last portion of the rows.
