The invention relates to an intelligent control method and apparatus for an intersection traffic light. The method comprises the following steps: receiving traffic light information uploaded by traffic lights, the traffic light information comprising traffic light state and traffic light status lasting time (110); and receiving vehicle speed information and intersection position information which is uploaded by an on-board terminal; on the basis of the traffic light information, the vehicle speed information and an intersection distance, generating intersection prompting information, and transmitting the same the on-board terminal for prompting (120). The intersection distance refers to the distance between the current position of a vehicle and a traffic intersection. According to the embodiments of the invention, the method herein can automatically determine whether the vehicle can directly pass the intersection on the basis of the traffic light information, the vehicle speed information and the intersection distance, and can generate corresponding intersection alert information, prompt a driver to pass the intersection safely, thereby increasing passage efficiency of the intersection while vehicles and pedestrians are guaranteed safety.
