Defence structure for a maritime or river structure. A defence structure for a maritime or river structure forming a rubble-mound breakwater comprises a shell covering an exposed slope of the breakwater, said shell being formed of first artificial blocks (480) comprising front lugs in the form of a pyramid and of second artificial riprap blocks (300) provided in abutment or counter-abutment at the base of the shell, in which said second artificial riprap blocks (300) are of frustoconical general shape, are arranged in alignment while being contiguous in pairs and comprise two stages forming a step, and wherein said first artificial blocks (480) are arranged in alignment all oriented in the same way such that a front lug of a first artificial block (480) rests on the steps of two second contiguous artificial blocks (300).
