The present invention relates to a conveyor tracking apparatus, modular tracking unit and a method of re-alignment of conveyor belt. The apparatus is self-adjusting for the return or non-carrying side of conveyor belt. The tracking apparatus provides a mechanism for a quick re-centering of the return conveyor belt and eliminates lateral mis-tracking and is designed such that it is installed on top of the return belt thereby completely eliminating the possibility of carry back material coming in contact with the tracking system and jamming of the pivots. The tracking apparatus is provided with an inverted V-design d so that more tension is exerted at the edges which enables better tracking of the belt.
