The invention relates to a chromium catalyst having formula (I), wherein: R1, R2 and R3 are identical and represent a hydrocarbon radical comprising between 1 and 36 carbon atoms and optionally one or more heteroatoms selected from among oxygen and nitrogen, on the understanding that if R1, R2 and R3 consist of hydrogen and carbon atoms then at least one of said radicals, R1, R2 or R3, represent(s) branched pentyl groups; and X₁, X₂ and X₃ represent, independently of one another, a halogen atom.
