FUEL COMPOSITION FOR WATER-COOLED THERMAL NEUTRON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT REACTORS

The invention relates to the field of nuclear technologies, specifically to fuel for thermal neutron nuclear power plants. A fuel composition comprising a mixture of recovered plutonium and enriched uranium in the form of oxides is proposed, characterized in that the enriched uranium used is enriched natural uranium and recovered plutonium, in a ratio of components determined by an energy potential equal to the potential of freshly prepared nuclear power plant fuel composed of enriched natural uranium, providing up to a 100% load of the reactor core. Possible variants of mixing said components are claimed, including unrestricted cycling of secondary recovered plutonium and uranium. The use of the proposed composition makes it possible to make maximum use of the energy potential of uranium and plutonium, including of stored spent nuclear fuel, and to sharply reduce the volume of storage facilities until the latter are decommissioned, and to fundamentally simplify the logistics and technology of manufacturing nuclear fuel from recovered materials.
