The invention concerns a scintillator material for an ionising radiation detector comprising a cation halide comprising at least one distinct cation of Eu2+ and of Sm2+, doped by Eu2+, and co-doped by Sm2+, said cation halide comprising at least one halogen chosen among Br, Cl and I, and preferably at least one cation chosen among the alkali earths, the rare earths, Al, Ga and the alkali metals chosen among Li, Na, Rb, Cs. The co-doping by Sm2+ moves the scintillation light emission peak to an emission spectrum domain having a low self-absorbance of the material.
