Method for optimizing the efficiency and/or the running performance of a fan, wherein, starting from component-specific or function-specific numerical detailed models, a model and therefore data reduction (data refinement) to form component-specific or function-specific behavioural models is carried out taking at least one algorithm as a basis, wherein the reduced data in the behavioural models are coupled or combined with input and output variables in a system simulation to form a system behavioural model, and wherein the input variables and associated output variables of the fan from the system behavioural model are made available to an optimizer for selection in order to achieve optimized control of the system on the basis of boundary conditions.
