The present application relates to a composition for electrochemical cells, wherein the composition comprises modified lignin and carboxymethyl cellulose. Preferably, said composition is a binder composition.The present application also relates to a negative electrode for an electrochemical cell, comprising said compositionaswell as a method for producing said negative electrode. The present invention also relates to the use of said composition as binder in a negative electrode, respectively, asdispersant used during the manufacturing thereof.
