The present invention relates to a method of preparing a sulfated zirconia catalyst for chlorination, and a method of preparing a reaction product containing methyl chloride (CH_3Cl) by using the sulfated zirconia catalyst. The sulfated zirconia catalyst, when used in a chlorination reaction, can improve selectivity of methyl chloride, and at the same time, can impart improved stability thereto. The method of preparing a sulfated zirconia catalyst comprises a step of mixing an amine-reactive material with a zirconium precursor containing an oxygen atom, and then dissolving the mixture in a solvent, thereby forming a mixture solution.
