Provided are a composition for forming a porous insulating layer capable of suppressing an increase in the thickness of an active material layer of an electrode, a method for manufacturing an electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, an electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery manufactured thereby. The composition for forming a porous insulating layer, according to the present invention, forms a porous insulating layer on an active material layer disposed on the circumferential surface of a current collector. The active material layer includes at least an active material capable of electrochemically occluding and releasing lithium ions and an active material layer binder. The composition for forming a porous insulating layer includes a solvent containing an organic solvent and insulating inorganic particles. The distance between the Hansen solubility parameters of the active material layer binder and the Hansen solubility parameters of the organic solvent is greater than or equal to 8.0 (MPa)^(1/2).
