The present invention provides a binder, a negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery comprising the same, and a lithium ion secondary battery comprising the negative electrode. The binder comprises a copolymer of monomers comprising: a hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylate monomer; at least one selected from a (meth)acrylic acid monomer and an alkali metal salt monomer of the (meth)acrylic acid; and a (meth)acrylonitrile monomer, wherein the copolymer does not comprise a conjugated diene monomer, a fluorine-containing (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer, and starch. The present invention also provides a method for polymerizing the copolymer. The binder of the present invention is excellent in adhesion.
