The present invention relates to power controlled short duration ablation with a variable temperature limit, which is capable of overcoming a nonlinear tissue response with respect to temperature characteristics of a tissue. According to the present invention, an apparatus comprises a temperature sensor and a probe including a transducer coming in contact with a target tissue. A power supply unit transfers power to the transducer for ablating the tissue. A controller receives a signal from the temperature sensor and outputs a tissue temperature in response to the same. During a first period, the power supply unit transfers power equal to or less than a first target power to the transducer and decreases the power when a first maximum allowance temperature of the tissue is exceeded. During a transfer period, the power supply unit decreases the power when the first maximum allowance temperature of the tissue is exceeded, and transfers power equal to or less than second target power. During a second period, the power supply unit transfers the power equal to or less than second target power while decreasing the transferred power when a second maximum allowance temperature less than the first maximum allowance temperature is exceeded.
