Disclosed are a method for preparing a positive electrode active material for a lithium sulfur battery capable of improving initial discharge capacity of a battery by forming pores on the surface of a carbon structure used for conducting a positive electrode, a positive electrode active material for a lithium sulfur battery prepared thereby and a lithium sulfur battery including the same. The method for preparing a positive electrode active material for a lithium sulfur battery comprises the following steps: a) forming a carbon structure comprising a carbon-based compound; and b) supplying mixed gas of CO_2 and O_2 to the formed carbon structure, thermally treating the same and forming pores on the surface of the carbon structure. The specific surface area of the carbon structure with the pores is 10 to 2,000 m^2/g.
