The present invention relates to a porous catalyst for the alkylation of hydroxyl groups comprising zinc oxide and aluminum oxide, a process for preparing the same using a nonionic surfactant, and a process for alkylating a hydroxyl group of a polyalkylene glycol using the same. The porous catalyst for hydroxyl group alkylation according to the present invention exhibits excellent polyalkylene glycol conversion and methylation conversion, and thus can be used economically and environmentally friendly for the alkylation of polyalkylene glycols.
