SELECTING FEATURE GEOMETRIES FOR LOCALIZATION OF A DEVICE

A system, apparatus and method are provided for developing a fingerprint database and selecting feature geometries to determine the geographic location of the device. The device collects a depth map at a location in the path network. Two-dimensional feature geometries are extracted from the depth map using the processor of the device. The extracted feature geometries are graded to provide rating values for the extracted feature geometries. Some of the extracted feature geometries are selected based on the rating values and geographic distribution of the extracted feature geometries.
