Disclosed are a method of polar code design in a binary symmetric channel and an apparatus therefor. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method of polar code design comprises the following steps: calculating an error rate of a polarized channel generated through channel merging and splitting using density evolution; and selecting an information transmission channel based on the calculated error rate of the polarized channel. The calculating step calculates a channel density of the polarized channel by applying at least one of a minimum value calculation and an addition calculation from a channel density of the binary symmetric channel, and can calculate the error rate of the polarized channel based on the calculated density of the polarized channel.
