According to the present invention, an apparatus for generating meta sentences in tables or images to improve machine reading comprehension (MRC) performance comprises: a meta sentence data set (200) in which example data converting information included in tables or images into meta sentences are stored; and a meta sentence generation unit (100) to use the example data stored in the meta sentence data set (200) to generate meta sentences from information included in tables or images from an original document including the tables or the images, and then supply a document with the meta sentences to an MRC processing unit (300) for performing MRC. According to the present invention, meta sentences for tables or images are generated in an original document including the tables or the images to supply the meta sentences to the MRC processing unit to allow questions and answers for information about the tables or the images while using a vacant MRC system without modifying the vacant MRC system to drastically improve machine reading comprehension performance.
