FIELD: hygiene.;SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral care composition and a method for use thereof. Disclosed oral care composition contains an effective amount of saccharide prebiotic for selective stimulation of growth, metabolic activity or colonization of bacteria, beneficial effect on health of oral cavity, selected from a group consisting of Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus salivarius, Streptococcus sanguinis, Actinomyces viscosus, Veillonella parvula, Streptococcus gordonii, Actinomyces naeslundii, preferable to growth, metabolic activity or colonization of pathogenic bacteria of oral cavity, wherein saccharide prebiotic is N-acetyl-D-mannosamine taken in amount of 0.1–5 wt% of total weight of composition.
