A vehicle (10) comprising: an engine (12); an input brake (11) for securing the engine (12); first and second electric traction motors (16, 18); a transmission (14) having an output member (38); driven by the traction motors (16, 18) in first and second all-electric (EV) modes of operation (EV1, EV2); anda control system (40) configured to optimize an EV operation mode transition by controlling the input brake and the first and second traction motors, the control system configured to: set a set of vehicle operating values prior to the EV operation mode transition using the control system to process the vehicle operating values to thereby identify when the EV operating mode transition is imminent; and to make a transition into or out of the first or second EV operation mode (EV1, EV2) as the EV operation mode transition, characterized in that in the EV operation mode transition from the first EV operation mode (EV1) to the second EV operation mode (EV2) the control system (40) is configured to transition between the first and second EV operation modes (EV1, EV2) using a plurality of speed and torque control phases to thereby enter a plurality of intermediate non-EV operation modes (EVT1, EVT2, FG1) wherein the plurality of intermediate non-EV operating modes comprise a pair of engine-on transmission modes (EVT1, EVT2) and a stall mode (FG1); and selectively engaging and disengaging the input brake (11) and at least one of the first and second traction motors (16, 18) is used to slip across the input brake (11) during the EV mode transition; u sync.
