It describes a procedure for exploring a robot application area by an autonomous mobile robot.According to an example, the procedure involves launching an exploratory trip,where the robot detects objects in its surroundings during the exploration and stores detected objects as map data in a map,while the robot moves through the robot's field of application.During the exploration, the robot performs sub -area detection based on the stored map data, detecting at least one reference sub -area.Subsequently, it is examined whether the reference area has been fully explored.The robot repeats the subsection detection to update the reference subsection and reconsiders whether the (updated) reference subsection is fully explored.The exploration of the reference sub -area shall continue until the examination shows that the reference sub -area has been fully explored.Subsequently, the robot will continue the exploration in another sub -area, provided that another sub -area has been detected,where the further sub -area is used as the reference sub -area.
