The invention relates to a method for controlling the automatic starting of a motor vehicle (2) comprising an electronically controllable limited slip differential uphill in a μ-split situation (34) in which a first road friction coefficient is present on a first drive wheel and a second road friction coefficient on a second drive wheel the first road friction coefficient is higher than the second road friction coefficient. The method comprises the following steps: determining (34) the slope of the road and the orientation of the motor vehicle; Determining (34) an output lock torque based on the determined slope and based on a portion of the torque needed by the vehicle to run uphill driven with only the first drive wheel; Calculating the slip ratio SR for the first drive wheel xx according to SR = (VV) / (VV) if the reference speed V is between 0 and a critical speed V and SR = (VV) / V if the reference speed V is greater than the critical speed V ; and determining (37) the locking torque of the electronically controllable limited slip differential based on the slip ratio of the first drive wheel.
