High performance single stream data compression technologies include a computing device that updates an index data structure based on an input data stream. The input data stream is divided into several segments. Each segment has a predetermined length, such as 136 bytes, and overlaps the previous segment by a predetermined amount, such as eight bytes. The computing device processes multiple segments in parallel using the index data to generate multiple token streams. The tokens contain literal tokens and reference tokens that refer to matching data at an earlier point in the input stream. The computing device therefore searches in parallel for matching data. The computing device combines the token streams to generate a single token output stream. The computing device may merge a token pair of two different segments to generate one or more synchronized tokens that are output to the token output stream.
