Method and device for monitoring electrical lines and connections in rectifier substations and the associated sections of electric tracks If, in electrically operated tracks, the tracks (G) are used as current return, a potential difference arises between the tracks (G) and the earth, which constitutes a hazard. For safe railway operation it is indispensable to install return cable parallel to the rails of a railway track, the integrity of which must be checked. A method for monitoring electrical cables and connections to establish the safety of operation and safety of electric railways in which the return system and the grounding system are tested is presented. In this case, at defined measuring points (A, B), a defined electrical pulse is fed into the circuit (SK) to be monitored. The curves of current (I 1 ) and voltage (U 1 ) are recorded and stored as reference values. These curves are characteristic of the total impedance (Z) of the external circuit to be monitored (SK) at a time when the system is in good condition. At a later time, a comparative measurement is made with a same electrical pulse. The now measured curves (U 2 , I 2 ) are compared with the recorded reference values. If the curves match, it can be assumed that the circuit is OK. If the curves (U 2 , I 2 ) deviate too much from the reference values (U 1 , I 1 ), a fault in the circuit to be monitored should be assumed, the cause of which must be determined. The device is arranged parallel to the circuit to be monitored and consists of an energy store (1), a switch (2), a voltage measuring device (5), a current measuring device (4) and a measuring and control device (3). By means of the measuring and control device (3), the switch (2) is actuated, which triggers the defined electrical pulse and evaluates the voltage measuring device (5) and the ammeter (4) determined values of current (I) and voltage (U) and records and saves the curves of current and voltage.
