The invention relates to a composite material in the form of solid particles having a core-shell active phase structure comprising a core of adsorbent material, at least one inorganic oxide and particles of the catalytically active phase and characterized in that the adsorption material is porous carbon, the inorganic oxide in that the core shell and the carrier agent form the catalytically active phase selected from the group consisting of zirconium oxide, titanium oxide, alumina, cerium oxide, the catalytically active phase consists of nanoparticles and their agglomerates based on metals or metal oxides prepared from the Pt, Pd , Rh, Re, Ir, Au, CoO, CuO, MnO, MnO, MnO, CeO, NiO, ZnO, FeO or mixtures thereof. The invention also provides the process for obtaining such a composite material and its use for the elimination of volatile organic compounds by adsorption and their subsequent catalytic oxidation.
