A start-up valve throttle device (4) has a housing (24) with a housing recess (25) formed therein, in which a switch body (26) is displaceable between a discharge position and a discharge position. In the discharge position of the switching body (26) forms a discharge channel (34) which connects an inlet channel (33) with a discharge opening (35). In the discharge position of the switching body (26) forms a passageway (36) which connects the inlet channel (33) with a discharge channel (37). In the passageway (36) is a throttle body (38) relative to the switch body (26) arranged displaceably. As a result, a melt (23) flowing through the through-channel (36) can be throttled in the desired manner. The start-up throttle device (4) is simple, compact and reliable. The operation of the start-up valve throttle device (4) and an associated screw machine (3) is simple and energy efficient.
