Systems and methods for detecting theft events are described based on a dynamically updated electronic heavy fade library. In various aspects, a server is associated with a local store that includes multiple items. The server is in communication with an electronic article library, the server dynamically updating the electronic article library based on theft events associated with items of the local store. The server further assigns to the elements one or more fading categories of the electronic article library, wherein one of the fading categories may be a heavy fade category. Detector station (s) located within the on-premises store are configured to track a heavy fade item within the on-premises store, the heavy fade item belonging to a heavy fade category of the electronic item library.
