Methods and systems for providing services using autonomous economic agents

A method of providing a service using one or more autonomous economic agents comprises generating 310 a service request using a client economic agent which may be considered autonomous. Service bids are received 320 using at least two service provider autonomous economic agents, each service provider is associated with a confidence on an open ledger. The confidences associated with each of the autonomous economic agents (AEAs) on the ledger are compared 330 to determine a service provider AEA associated with a higher confidence relative to confidences stored in the ledger. The determined service provider autonomous economic agent associated with the higher confidence is then selected 340 for providing the service. The confidences may include historical information of services provided using the service provider AEA. The ledger may be a distributed ledger employing a blockchain data structure.
